Artist Statement

Throughout my life I have always been captivated by small moments, the moments that pass throughout the day between the life altering ones. The intention of my work is to depict the intersection between these small moments and my own experience with mental illness. As a person who has post-traumatic stress disorder, my work focuses on this in-between. My current series of oil on panel paintings focus on the quiet moments, the snapshots of the everyday. Each piece is small, only ten by ten inches, which invites the viewer in close for an intimate interaction with the work. Using a subtle and muted color palette, the paintings reflect a crossing of calmness and numbness with appreciation for the little things. Elements like soft grey clouds, light shadows, and glowing highlights evoke a calm celebration of the everyday.
